What's the best way to learn complex concepts? Via playing we say! We have conducted a mixed method study on how to make research more inclusive, that resulted in a very dense pdf. Learning from lessons of WCAG (dense read!), we have designed engaging game designed to eliminate barriers to experimentation in research projects and promote inclusivity.
Here's what the participants learned with us:
End-to-end research study design with inclusion in mind
Refining research practices with practical tips
Embracing the experimental application of design methodology to research
Testing and enhancing the accessibility of research methods, weaving inclusion into the very fabric of research.
And have fun in the process!
We ran it for HMRC, UX London, Interaction 23 and UX Nordic 2024. After experiencing a day of play with us, researchers, designers and product managers said:
I will now be thinking about the research before applying known methodologies 'blindly'!
I’ll be more mindful of bias in research processes!
I really learned about inclusive research practices. I had no idea this was something I was leaving out of my process.
I very much enjoyed the game, absolutely love it and would be willing to buy one for myself to include into my company's UX meetings.
This taught me to think broader when planning research, and to be flexible and ready to adapt the changes in the methods and techniques.
Every time we run the game, new learnings emerge - together with the group, we craft new approaches to research and design that lower participation barriers for more people. Get in touch with us if you'd like to play!
